About Us

LeukemiaTexas is an independent nonprofit corporation dedicated to fighting the life-threatening blood cancer of leukemia through the funding of leukemia research and patient aid in Texas.

Through its Patient Aid program, LeukemiaTexas provides financial assistance to leukemia patients needing help with their necessary treatment expenses. This program currently serves over 125 children and adults. The LeukemiaTexas Research program awards grants for research to develop new and improved methods of treatment and which may ultimately lead to a cure for leukemia. As part of this program, LeukemiaTexas offers a Young Investigator award. This award helps fulfill a major need in today's scientific research community by supporting innovative research conducted by promising young researchers at the early stages of their careers.

In July 2008, LeukemiaTexas increased its financial assistance by 25% and awarded 3 new research grants totaling $450,000. Two of these grants were Young Investigator awards.

Results from research made possible by $1,079,391 of recent LeukemiaTexas research grants have been published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Science, Journal of the American Medical Association, Lancet, Journal of Clinical Oncology, Tissue Antigens, Biology of Blood and Marrow Transplantation and Hematology/Oncology Clinics of North America. This research has also been presented at the American Society of Hematology Annual Conference, National Marrow Donor Program Conference, the Annual HLA Advanced Technical Workshop, the Annual Conference on the Gene Therapy of Cancer and the Annual Meeting of the American Society of Hematology.

Founded in 1970, LeukemiaTexas is an independent, tax-exempt, 501c3 nonprofit corporation. LeukemiaTexas is not affiliated with any other leukemia or nonprofit organization and does not receive any government funding. The majority of funds raised are from annual special events including The BeatLeukemia Ball and the LeukemiaTexas Golf Classic.
